CyberCamp 2014 Recap

We wrapped up CyberCamp 2014 last week at Daytona State College. We were, once again, graciously hosted by the Advanced Cyberforensics Education (ACE) program, under a grant from the National Science Foundation.

This year, 42 high-school students participated in a four day day intensive security training camp. The first three days included classes, labs and challenges designed to challenge students at all levels. The fourth day consisted of a 4 hour team challenge designed to test the students’ abilities to secure machines under typical business stresses.

This year we also added a class, lab and challenge on vulnerability assessment. Vulnerability assessment is a skill that very few students get exposure to until they enter the workforce. Our CyberCamp students not only received general training on Vulnerability assessment, but also got to work hands-on in their own labs to remediate the vulnerabilites vulnerabilities they discovered.

At the completion of the camp, we awarded prizes valued well over $25k this year, including 9 Cisco Video Training packages, courtesy of IT University Online.
