Florida is home to over 30 security organization chapters, a booming information security industry, and volunteer opportunities.  With so much going on, there's an opportunity for everyone to get involved!

Being active in local organizations is critical to the growth of one's career as well as the industry security at large. By participating in local chapter meetings and volunteer events, you’re not only growing as an individual, you’re helping serve the local community and future generations.

INFORMATION SYSTEMS SECURITY ASSOCIATION

As anyone seriously involved in the information security profession can attest, peer networking is an invaluable resource. (ISC)² Chapters provide members with the opportunity to build a local network of peers to share knowledge, exchange resources, collaborate on projects, and create new ways to earn CPE credits! Being a member of an (ISC)² Chapter has its benefits. Not only will you gain a sense of fellowship with colleagues in your profession, you will also be able to network and exchange ideas with fellow (ISC)² credential holders and other information security professionals in your local area.

Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP)

The OWASP Chapters program helps to foster local discussion of application security around the world. Our Local Chapters are free and open to anyone and managed by a set of guidelines known as the OWASP Chapter Handbook. Many of the popular OWASP presentations are available for everyone to use at meetings. Attending meetings anywhere in the world is FREE and OPEN to anyone, membership is NOT required to do so.

Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)

ISACA has more than 200 chapters worldwide, all of which offer an opportunity to share a broad range of professional expertise from diverse business communities. Chapters sponsor local educational seminars and workshops, engage in IT research projects, conduct regular chapter meetings, and help to further promote and elevate the visibility of the IS audit, control and security professional.

 

INFRAGARD

InfraGard is an association of individuals that facilitate information sharing and intelligence between businesses, academic institutions, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated to prevent hostile acts against the United States.

 

COLLEGIATE CYBER DEFENSE CLUBS

Most Florida Universities have a student-organized cyber defense club dedicated to teaching students the art and science of computer and information security. In most cases, you simply need to visit your schools Office of Student Involvement (or similar) for more details.
